A couple of years ago there was a debate, a hot debate, about the health care in this country.  Many voices were heard – and ignored – as the congress pushed for more intrusion and power over people’s lives.  For a bit of history on pieces of this debate, I have looked up some references:

“I still have the unique issue of abortion,” Nelson said on Sunday’s Face the Nation. “I’ve said I can’t support the bill with the abortion language that’s there.”

Nelson said some of his Senate colleagues are working on a compromise, but he didn’t think there was a way to satisfy both his and pro-life concerns as well as finding language that abortion advocates would accept. (From here.)

“The weeks-long soap opera of finding 60 votes for the Senate health reform bill came to an end yesterday when Democrats “compromised” with Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) on language regarding abortion coverage.  After catering first to Senator Joe Lieberman, (Ind-CT), by removing both the public option and the Medicaid buy-in, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) then introduced a manager’s amendment that includes new language on abortion care–and a huge barrel of pork for Nebraska–in an effort to bring Nelson on board and get the 60 votes needed to end a Republican filibuster.” (From here)

“The executive order is intended to ensure that current law limiting federal funding for abortion is maintained and it will extend the restrictions to the newly created health insurance exchanges. Under the current law, federal funds cannot go toward abortion except in cases of rape, incest and when the life of the pregnant woman is at risk….the president signed this executive action behind closed doors, with nary a camera present and no reporters allowed.” (from here)

“The Department of Health and Human Services under radical abortion promoter Kathleen Sebelius has approved the first disbursement of federal tax dollars to pay for abortions, despite an Executive Order that promised the American people such abortion funding would not be permitted.” (from here)

“Nestled within the “individual mandate” in the Obamacare act — that portion of the Act requiring every American to purchase government — approved insurance or pay a penalty — is an “abortion premium mandate.” This mandate requires all persons enrolled in insurance plans that include elective abortion coverage to pay a separate premium from their own pockets to fund abortion.  As a result, many pro-life Americans will have to decide between a plan that violates their consciences by funding abortion, or a plan that may not meet their health needs…“To comply with the accounting requirement, plans will collect a $1 abortion surcharge from each premium payer,” the pro-life source informed LifeNews. “The enrollee will make two payments, $1 per month for abortion and another payment for the rest of the services covered. As described in the rule, the surcharge can only be disclosed to the enrollee at the time of enrollment.  Furthermore, insurance plans may only advertise the total cost of the premiums without disclosing that enrollees will be charged a $1 per month fee to pay directly subsidize abortions.” (from here)

Now that the mess has passed and forced on us, Ben is bailing.  How much was that vote worth?  Is there any reason to believe power-hungry political animals?  Limited government?  Where?  I am continuing my call for removal of agencies, first being the HHS, followed by Depts of energy, housing, education, and any others that they can throw in for good measure.  These are the engines of personal and national destruction, and in this case – death.  As for the voters who keep putting these vultures back in seats – STOP IT.  Turnover is good.
