From my quotes file

“It is at first denied that any radical new plan exists;
it is then conceded that it exists but ministers swear blind that it is not even on the political agenda;
it is then noted that it might well be on the agenda but is not a serious proposition;
it is later conceded that it is a serious proposition but that it will never be implemented;
after that it is acknowledged that it will be implemented but in such a diluted form
that it will make no difference to the lives of ordinary people;
at some point it is finally recognized that it has made such a difference,
but it was always known that it would and voters were told so from the outset.”

Here is the shorter version of the Foot in the Door
Whenever a controversial law is proposed,
and its supporters, when confronted with an egregious abuse it would permit,
use a phrase along the lines of
‘Perhaps in theory, but the law would never be applied in that way’
– they’re lying – .
They intend to use the law that way as early and as often as possible.

Also, a comment on that
Reality is even more insidious than that.
They may not even be lying,
but be completely honest
and never use the law “that way”
– but their successors eventually will.

How about a bill allowing the government to monitor internet?
From comments here: “CISPA provides one monster carrot to those who “voluntarily” participate in CISPA, and that’s immunity from ever being sued for failing to safeguard the privacy of their users.”
Do you want representatives who supported monitoring us via our browsers?
How about this?: ‘Mandatory Event Data Recorders’ to be installed in all new automobiles and legislates for civil penalties to be imposed against individuals for failing to do so
How about congress critters allowing internment of citizens against the word of the Bill of Rights?
Described here, all they have to do is call someone a terrorist, and internment begins. Remember who are described as terrorists? Here is the roll call for the defense Authorization act.
Here is an article about who is a terrorist. From west Texas, those missing fingers have worked the oil wells a while…
